About MACP
Our Mission
The Metroplex Association of Corporate Paralegals ("MACP") was formed to promote and
encourage the professional objectives and goals of paralegals for in-house counsel, to provide
programs of continuing education and development, to encourage high standards of integrity and
professionalism.
To effect our mission, MACP members adopt the Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility of
the Paralegal Division of the State Bar of Texas as a guideline for professional conduct.
Our History
In July 1996, seven corporate paralegals met to discuss the development of a network of peers for
the purpose of exchanging ideas relating to substantive law matters involving in-house corporate
legal departments. Future luncheons were planned and invitations extended to other corporate
paralegals.
Next, a Steering Committee was formed to help focus the direction of growth for the organization
and to formulate a survey to query the membership as to its preferences. After many productive
Steering Committee meetings, it was decided to form a non-profit organization to promote and
encourage the professional objectives and goals of paralegals for in-house counsel. The Steering
Committee drafted Articles of Incorporation in the fall of 1997, and on October 21, 1997, the
required documentation to incorporate as a non-profit corporation was filed with the Texas Secretary
of State. Then, on October 29, 1997, the Metroplex Association of Corporate Paralegals was created.
Today's Association
The new board endeavored to maintain the original goal of providing a forum for corporate
in-house paralegals to gather in an informal setting to network and share information. This
philosophy has resulted in the phenomenal growth of MACP's membership in a very short period of
time.
MACP members meet quarterly at a central location in the Metroplex (usually
in the Arlington area near the airport). They also have an annual meeting
in December. These
meetings allow corporate paralegals to meet new colleagues and help stimulate fresh ideas to perform
their duties more effectively.
In addition to its regular meetings, MACP offers:
- Annual CLE seminar and CLE lunches throughout the year.
- Job bank.
- Quarterly newsletters.
- Bi-Annual Salary and Utilization Survey.
- Current information affecting the paralegal profession.
